No Advice Just A Quick Divorce
November 20th, 2007 by admin
As easy on divorce seekers as it could be made – that was how the new six-week divorce law was framed. Nevada, under the half-year-residence law, had attracted wealthy divorce clients. The new law was devised to help the less-favored. The idea was not to offer divorce advice, but to simply allow people to get the divorce they were looking for as quickly as painlessly as possible.
Here is a statement, prepared in the office of those divorce courts:
“The present law requires six weeks actual, not constructive, residence to obtain divorce which may be heard behind closed doors and with practically all papers sealed.”
The secrecy element is one that was formerly possible only for the very well-to-do, with the aid of a powerful divorce lawyer.
